The National Gulf War Resource Center (NGWRC) announces a unique and exciting opportunity to serve members of the armed forces currently engaged in Operation Iraqi Freedom. A limited number of Service Member/Veterans Service Representatives will be selected for training and deployment to Kuwait to provide direct education, training and representational services to troops that are in the process of returning to the United States following their duties overseas.
The service representatives will be responsible for counseling returning service members with respect to available military and civilian health care programs, disability compensation benefits and other kinds of assistance to which they are entitled because of their military service, as well as preparing applications for such benefits. The positions will be based in Kansas City and will require at least two years of service in Kuwait over the course of three years.
Experience in military, veterans and Social Security law and benefits is preferred. Applicants must meet federal eligibility requirements for an accredited Veterans Service Representative [see pdf]. Previous overseas deployment, military experience, written and verbal advocacy skills, and experience with case management databases and Microsoft Office are assets for these positions.
